IntraHealth Namibia launched its 10th Anniversary celebrations in Windhoek on Friday, 23rd August 2024. The event saw representatives of development cooperation partners, government officials, private sector representatives and former staff members coming together to reflect on and celebrate the organisation’s work for the past decade.
Speaking at the event, Dr Kalumbi Shangula, Minister of Health and Social Services, highlighted that IntraHealth Namibia has played a pivotal role in advancing various HIV/AIDS programmes, reaching individuals in urban centers and in remote communities alike. “The work that IntraHealth Namibia has done in training health workers, improving healthcare systems, and fostering community participation has not only advanced our health goals, but has reinforced the fabric of our society,” he said.
Dr Shangula also stressed the importance of public-private partnerships stating that such partnerships are essential in ensuring that every Namibian, regardless of their geographic location or socio-economic status, has access to healthcare services they deserve. “Through these collaborations, we can leverage the strengths of both sectors, combining the innovative approaches of non-profit organisations and the systemic support of government institutions, to create sustainable health solutions for the Namibian people,” he said.
The Minister further stated that continued strengthening of partnership with the Ministry of Health and Social Services and exploring innovative approaches to tackle the emerging health challenges in the country is of utmost importance.
“The knowledge and experience amassed by IntraHealth Namibia over the years positions us excellently to address these challenges head-on. As we work together to implement health policies, expand service accessibility, and build a resilient and equitable healthcare system, we must ensure that our efforts place the needs of the communities at the center of our initiatives,” stated Dr Shangula.
IntraHealth Namibia Board Chairperson, Mr. Armin Wieland lauded the Ministry of Health and Social Services for creating a conducive environment which allows civil society organisations, such as IntraHealth Namibia, to contribute to national health goals. Mr Wieland stated that the conducive environment created by the Ministry has helped IntraHealth Namibia to expand its footprints from 3 regions to 12 regions of the country to serve all Namibians with health information and services.
Mr. Wieland also acknowledged donors who have financially supported the organisation. “We would like to especially acknowledge PEPFAR, through USAID and CDC, for its unwavering support and trust in us to achieve the goals as agreed upon with the government and communities that we serve. We also want to acknowledge Global Fund and other donors that have supported the organisation over the years,” he said.
